We are asked many questions every day by our customers.
Although it’s not possible to list them all here, we have listed some of those asked most frequently asked. If you do not see your own question just drop us a message!

A – A Fishing Resort is a fully licensed venue (hotel license and insurance) with accommodation, restaurants, bars, swimming pools and other amenities on site. They are situated in TOURIST AREAS of the country. In addition to this they have invested heavily in fish of specimen sizes by Thai standards. A 50lb Carp or Catfish in Thailand is NOT a big fish. Resorts cater to the holiday experience as much as to the angling experience making them the ideal choice for those wishing to combine a general tropical holiday with angling. There are currently only a small handful of licensed fishing resorts in Thailand. EFT is proud to be one of them.

A – Your camera, a smile, towel, change of clothes, sun screen, hat, head torch (optional), and of course cash for the payment of the balance of your holiday.

A – Sorry we do not currently take credit cards on the resort but you can use a card to pay your deposit online. Once here we take cash, PayPal, and Bank Transfer, but fees are passed on to you for the cost of paypal and transfers.

A – Usually the lake fishes better in the afternoon but many fish (especially Arapaima) are caught in the first few casts so be alert and ready.

A – YES, you can but we have to approve it and strongly prefer that you don’t as often rods, reels and line are simply not up to the required specification to handle the larger fish. This also saves you travelling with extra baggage at additional flight costs. Our equipment is specifically matched to the task at hand.

A – YES, there are many exciting and interesting things to do. Please check our things to do page for a list of options including; world class beaches, sea kayaking, jungle fishing, horse riding, island tours, white water rafting, and visiting waterfalls and temples close by. We do not encourage Elephant Trekking BUT there is an Elephant Sanctuary close by which treats its animals well. This is a very small sample of whats on offer, being so well located means the opportunities are in fact endless.

A – We do get some mosquitos in the evenings, BUT not as many as you would think, usually the first hour of darkness is when there are a few of these pests about or shortly after a heavy rainfall, after that they largely vanish. Citronella Repellent is available for sale on site, or you can of course bring your own. There are also some biting ants, snakes, and scorpions around our property as there are throughout Thailand! We are surrounded by untouched nature so this is to be expected. However in the last 8 years of operation we have not had any customer bitten or attacked by such a critter.

A – YES, you can use live bait but they must be either Tilapia or Java Barbs caught from our lake. They can ONLY be presented 2 ways, either ledgered on the bottom or beneath a Fox X-Large controller float and only with EFT supplied predator hook links of approved length. These methods are chosen to reduce risk to our precious fish. SORRY BUT NO OTHER METHODS OR RIGS will be considered.

A – Night fishing sessions must be booked in advance, and are subject to availability of our staff. Any Night sessions booked are done so as a continuation of your day and begin at 7PM.

A – We do not currently weigh fish as there is no reason to put them through unnecessary stress as the IGFA no longer accepts records from commercial waters. We have weighed our specimen fish and electronically tag them upon initial stocking so we are quite good at estimating weights and also quite conservative. We do not overestimate fish sizes.

A – No outside baits are allowed unless they are pre-approved boilies or pop ups brands which are acceptable. Our fish have been raised on our own brand of pellets, boilies, and also deadbait species so they are generally conditioned to those specific baits, so no great advantage is to be gained by bringing your own.

A – The fishing at EFT is good all year round with fluctuations within each month based on weather patterns, moon phases, etc. generally the fishing is best from May to November and the best beach weather is from November to April. The lake is generally less busy from May to November so also less pressure on the fish. Certain species like different weather so check our Social Media pages to keep up to speed and to see what gets caught most and when.

A – YES, we do but only with 12 or preferably 14 weight fly rods. We will not allow any flyrod below a 12 weight. . We DO NOT supply fly rods at EFT. You must bring your own and it will be inspected for suitability before you commence fishing. Other tackle details can be discussed before you plan your visit.

A – From our 65+ species we have 18 species weighing more than existing IGFA records, unfortunately the IGFA as of 2014 no longer recognizes records from commercial fisheries. We are trying to persuade IGFA otherwise but so far with no success.

A – YES, we do have Guides available to help as needed. Some anglers like help and some prefer to do everything themselves so please communicate to the guides your preference. Guides generally want to be helpful BUT it is your fishing day so please be clear to your guide if you wish to be left to it except for fish netting. They are generally available to land all fish, help with photos, change terminal tackle, supply bait, and give advice if you require any. The Guides are responsible for up to 2 swims per guide so please be patient if they are elsewhere assisting others. The guides speak Thai and will try to communicate with you the best they can. The Guides are not university educated so do not speak Russian, German, French , Dutch or Chinese. Maybe try using google translate on your phone if you need to as this can be a handy tool.

A – YES, Staff are happy to take your orders and serve food and drinks in your fishing swim. Restaurant staff will make a circuit of the lake every hour or so taking orders. Alternatively you can get the attention of the nearest guide and ask them to assist in taking your order.

A – No rod sharing is allowed, each person fishing must pay for a fishing ticket, there are plenty of shared swim options for couples, family and friends and you should book according to the number of anglers in your group.

A – We have WI-FI throughout the resort. This is a very high speed service and usually very reliable but even so in certain weather conditions the connection can go down, this is after all a fishery in the jungle.

A – Alcohol, drugs, any illegal substances or items, a negative attitude, food and/or drinks from outside the resort.

A – You cannot play music if it is audible to other anglers. We suggest headphones. Please respect your fellow anglers which also applies to yelling across the lake. Anglers generally enjoy the serenity of being outdoors in nature, and we request you do the same.

A – NO, you cannot under any circumstances. EFT is a catch and release fishery only.

A – We feel it is safe or we would not go in the water every day ourselves. Fish are generally more scared of us than we are of them. Entering the water and handling the fish is ultimately at your own risk and we are not responsible for your safety. Please remember to empty your pockets before getting in the water. We do have a few steps but they are very slippery so take care when entering the water.

A – Yes but please let our staff know if you have any allergies. This is obviously very important so please use your translation feature on your phone to make sure they understand you 100%. For any other special dietary needs our staff are happy to help where possible and will make off menu dishes if at all possible.

A: We do not sell flights. Your booking with us starts when we collect you at the Airport or any pick up point you request in Thailand.

A: Please consult with your GP before you travel, but most tourist areas of Thailand are low risk for malaria and other tropical diseases.

A: You can book via our booking engine, or make your inquiry via the contact us page on the website. To secure a booking a deposit is required with the balance payable in cash on arrival.

A: If the cost is out of your reach, sign up to our newsletter and look out for promotions we run from time to time.. Please subscribe to our newsletter to find out more. If you re-book and pay a deposit before your departure a loyalty discount is available.

A: We do not currently sell half days fishing as we are not a “casual” venue. We like to think most anglers who pay upwards of 6000BHT a day to fish understand that they are targeting something special, and the best chance of results are by doing a full day taking in morning and dusk.

A: If you don’t make a booking there is no guarantee we can get you fishing if you turn up unannounced as all swims may be taken.

A:You are welcome to make your own way to the resort, last check in time for self-drive is 9PM.

A: Our swimming pool is the largest on any fishing resort AND we have the added feature of the Swimquarium and swim up bar!

A: 12AM. Late Check Out available on request at time of booking.

A: The fishery opens each day at 8AM, fishing ends at 7PM, which provides for up to an hour and half of fishing into darkness at certain times of the year.

A: 3kgs of deadbait, 1kg of boilies and 10kg groundbait and 25ograms of chicken hearts

A: Since all fish are unhooked and photographed in the water, swimming shorts and quick drying lightweight shirts are useful. Also useful are neoprene socks/diving socks to keep your feet clean in the water.
